Peer activities provide opportunities for consumers who live in Tarrant County to interact with each other in fun, community-based settings allowing for an increase in social support and friendship.
Peers eligible to participate may be anyone in the community, especially mental health consumers, who are able to provide encouragement and support for another person who is recovering from a mental illness.
Peers are welcome to participate at any level of the program including dinner out, field trips, and other social get-togethers.
Opportunities for consumers include one-on-one friendships, group activities, advisory committee participation, activity planning, fundraising, volunteer work at MHATC, and volunteering for the Peer Warm Line (a telephone support network). Volunteers who are not consumers are welcome to participate in every aspect of the program.
